Sab (Sebastian) Ribeiro

November 11, 1957 - March 29, 2024

Sab (Sebastian) Ribeiro passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024, with his partner Sharon and daughter Amanda at his side. Sab was born in Kitimat, BC on November 11, 1957, and grew up at 5 Brant Street with his three siblings.

Sab was first diagnosed with cancer in 1977 and underwent treatment while a UBC student. His subsequent early onset male pattern baldness was often misconstrued as a consequence of treatment and Sab compensated for his hairline challenges with his trademark, glorious mustache.

Sab had a great sense of humour and was often chosen to MC gatherings or events and, even if he was not given the job, he would often make a toast so long you'd think he was being paid by the word.

Upon graduating from UBC, Sab returned to Kitimat, starting a job at Methanex (formerly Ocelot) where he would stay for 40 years; at first in Kitimat where he raised his family and then globally. Sab spent the last 15 years living and working in Trinidad where he met his soulmate, Sharon.

When his cancer returned in 2019, he began splitting his time between Vancouver and Trinidad. Outside of work Sab enjoyed spending time with his family, restoring cars, and building model boats and wooden toys for his grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his father, Sebastião, and survived by his partner, Sharon; mother, Margarida; siblings Marg, Doug (Lissa), and Len (Val); children Amanda (Doug), Danielle (Marco), Nathan (Janice), and Justin; and grandchildren Sophie, Isla, Massimo, Fabrizio, Lochlan, and Adriel (Regina).

His memory will also be cherished by aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends spanning the globe. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to BC Cancer Foundation in his memory (www.bccancerfoundation.com/SabRibeiro).

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr Kathleen Cadenhead, Drs Nicole Chau and Jonn Wu and the staff at BC Cancer, as well as the Palliative Care team at Vancouver General Hospital for their outstanding care.

A celebration of Sab's life will be held at Luso Canadian Club, 159 Konigus St. Kitimat on Saturday, May 4th at 2:00 pm.
